DCOMCNFG accidental removal of "Everyone" permission
On my Win 2008 R2 server I accidentally removed the "Everyone" Access Permission through COM Security using DCOMCNFG. The server has since been restarted and will not now start up. Do i have any options :(

Hi, Did you receive any error during startup? Please also let us know which stage or phrase can you reach during the startup. Please try whether Safe Mode works and let us know the results. If the issue persists in Safe Mode, you may consider performing System Restore as a test. Thanks. NinaThis posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties, and confers no rights.

Hi. When i select safe mode i get a loading screen where i can see various files loading. Then i get the "press cntrl+alt+del to logon" screen, the screen then goes black but i can still see the cursor. If i press "cntrl+alt+del" i get the login screen with no message or logon box, just the EN language button on the top left hand corner. If after pressing F8 on boot i instead select repair i get the option to load a saved image, i don't have one, so i selected command prompt. Is there any way through the command line i can add the everyone permission? I tried running DCOMCNFG but this is not recognised as a command line program. Thanks.

Hi. This forum post suggests that the issue can be resolved by importing a reg key from another server. When i run enter "repair mode" using F8 and run regedit it does not appear to show all the keys. As in i know there are a lot of keys which should be present which i don't see. I tried the import anyway and it didn't help. Does anyone know how to edit the registry in repair mode? Thanks

Hi, I see that you have imported the registry keys, please try importing the keys via command line as a test. Refer to regedit.exe /c /s filepath. What is the result? Then, you can export the keys on the problematic PC and compare with the keys you have imported previously. Do they match? If the issue persists, please try System Restore in the Repair mode. As there is no backup available, if the above suggestions do not help, please consider performing Parallel Install. I hope the above information will be helpful. Thanks. Hi. Importing the key did not appear to fix my login problems. I had to resort to reloading a Clonezilla image i had saved before. Thanks for the input all the same.
